Sony Announces PS3 Price Drop

Exciting news comes to the Playstation Nation—Sony has announced a price cut for its PS3 console.

Effective immediately, the 160GB PS3 and the 320GB PS3 are not available for $249 and $299 respectively. That is a $50 price drop!

The new price will make the PS3 more accessible than ever before, and gives sharp competition to Microsoft, whose Xbox 360 console that retails starting at $199 or the Nintendo Wii that retails for $150.

Sony insists that the price cut is not 3DS-esque, and is not a sign that the Playstation is losing steam.

“PlayStation 3 is gaining momentum and giving gamers everywhere more of what they want: an unparalleled line-up of exclusive games and access to the best in sports, movies and TV, all at a great value,” Sony said in a recent statement.

The PlayStation 3 was an innovator in its class—it first came to the U.S. market with its built-in Blu-ray player, integrated hard drive, built-in wireless and unmatched hi-def gaming.

To date, more than 50 million PS3’s have been sold worldwide, the portfolio of games and video content on the PlayStation Network exceeds 60,000 titles and  close to 3,000 Blu-ray titles are available.
