Angry Birds Hit Intergalatic Territory
Will The Force be strong in these Angry Birds as well?
It is being dubbed as one of the biggest game launches in history, just in time for the Christmas shopping rush, too.
Both Star Wars and Angry Birds are excited for the Angry Birds Star Wars release on November 8.
Rovio, developer of the insanely-popular Angry Birds game franchise, and Lucas Film, owner of the Star Wars universe, teamed up to create the game featuring familiar material from the two iconic pop culture successes.
“This is the best ‘Angry Birds’ game we’ve ever done,” Rovio CMO Peter Vesterbacka told ABC News. “It’s the best parts of ‘Angry Birds’ with all new cutting-edge gameplay set in in a galaxy far, far away. As a big ‘Star Wars’ fan myself, I’m really excited about this new universe. The Force is definitely strong with this one.”
Meanwhile, Ville Heijari, vice president of franchise development for Rovio, told Mashable the tie-up between his company and Lucas Film is nothing short of epic.
“This is one of the few times Lucasfilm has allowed for such use of the original material, and we feel the end result is creative, powerful, and most importantly a lot of fun for fans of both ‘Angry Birds’ and ‘Star Wars’,” he said.
Rovio is milking the cash cow with an extensive line-up of Angry Birds Star Wars merchandise, teaming up with Hasbro and Focus Multimedia to stock store shelves with plush toys, clothes and accessories, board games, action figures, and the PC versions of Angry Birds Star Wars and Rovio’s other recent hit, Bad Piggies.
“We see this as something that’s much bigger than a game launch,” Rovio’s EVP of games Petri Järvilehto said in a statement. “We are working with Lucasfilm and Hasbro to bring a fantastic toy line-up to the market… We are totally pushing ourselves to a new level with this. It’s going to be an Angry Birds holiday.”
